Permission GrantedLuke 9:2

The Spare Key Beside the Kettle

This message is for release from waiting on a ceremonial invitation before opening one quiet prayer hour inside the permission she was already given

For the woman who was handed a key months ago and has never once used it for the thing she wanted it for.

You keep it on the hook by the kettle, which is the safest place in the house and also the place you look at most often. Small brass key, a paper tag with the room number on it in somebody else's handwriting, and a loop of green string because the ring broke in the summer.

You have used it eleven times. Every one of those was to let somebody else in, carry a box, or open up early for a meeting that was not yours. Each time you locked up afterward and put the key back on its hook by the kettle.

What you have never done is go in on your own, at six in the morning, and pray for an hour in a warm room with the lights low. That's the whole reason you said yes when they offered you the key. Nobody knows that, because you've never said it out loud to anybody.

You are not waiting for access, you are waiting for an invitation, and the key in your kitchen is not an invitation but something better. Scripture sends ordinary people to do real work without a word of ceremony, and the Holy Spirit has been in that room every morning you did not come.

The Spare Key Beside the Kettle

What You Think the Key Is For

Ask yourself what you believe that key covers, because the answer is narrower than what you were given and you have never examined it.

In your head it's for errands. Fetching, opening, setting up, locking after. Anything done for somebody else is clearly inside the permission, and you've never once hesitated over those. Anything done for you sits outside it, in a category you have never named and have obeyed exactly.

Nobody drew that line. The woman who handed you the key said use it whenever you need, and then she talked about the boiler for four minutes, and that's the entire conversation there ever was. She has no idea a line exists, because she did not draw one.

You have drawn a boundary God never drew and then obeyed it faithfully. The written Word settles what belongs to you in Christ, and the Holy Spirit leads with a clarity that a silence in a corridor will never manage.

Be gentle with yourself about that. A person who has been made to feel like an intruder somewhere else will draw lines everywhere afterward, and the drawing is a scar rather than a fault.

Where the Genuine Boundary Actually Sits

Real boundaries are worth naming, because honoring them is what keeps this honest rather than convenient.

You may not use a room that somebody else has booked. You may not let strangers into the building. You may not leave it unlocked, cost the place money, or take a decision that belongs to the woman who runs it. None of that is negotiable and none of it has ever tempted you.

Now hold your six o'clock against those. The room is empty at six. Nobody is booked. You would use no heat you did not turn off after, and you would lock up the way you have locked up eleven times already. There is no line anywhere near what you want to do.

You are free inside the permission you were actually given, and it is wider than you have been using. Scripture gives you a settled place rather than a provisional one, and the Holy Spirit keeps a careful woman from overstepping without keeping her from moving.

Nothing here tells you to go around anybody, take a room that is spoken for, or stop being careful. What is on offer is smaller and far more useful than that.

What an Hour Alone Is Not Required to Produce

There is a second weight on that key and it has nothing to do with permission. It's about what the hour would have to be worth.

You've pictured yourself in a cold room at six in the morning with nothing happening. No warmth, no words, no sense of anything at all, just a woman sitting in a plastic chair with her coat on while the heating clicks. Then you'd drive home having spent an hour proving something you didn't want proved.

That picture's kept the key on its hook more effectively than the permission question ever did. A permission question can be answered once. An imagined empty hour can stop you every single morning.

You were given a room to pray in, not an experience to produce. The written Word never makes your standing depend on what an hour feels like, and the Holy Spirit is present whether or not you can feel Him in the room.

Take that off and the whole morning gets lighter. One hour, one chair, whatever comes, and nothing riding on it that God has not already carried.

He Sent Them, and That Was the Whole Ceremony

There is a line in Luke describing how Jesus sent the twelve out, and the striking part of it is how little is made of the sending.

> And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. > Luke 9:2 (KJV)

No building. No platform. No service of commissioning described for us at all. He sent them, and the sentence moves straight on to what they were sent to do, because the sending was never the interesting part to anybody except us.

Read that against a key on a hook by a kettle. You've been waiting for the part of this that Scripture barely bothers to describe, and you already hold the part it spends its time on: a room, an hour, and something you actually want to bring to God.

You are already sent, and the sending does not shrink because nobody made a moment of it. The written Word carries that commission to everyone who belongs to Christ, and the Holy Spirit keeps it live in you this week, at six in the morning, in an ordinary room.

Declare this over yourself

You are in Christ and Christ is in you, so what follows is not a claim made out of your own authority. It is agreement, said back to God in His own words, while the Holy Spirit carries it. How He orders the rest of it is His to decide, and He answers in His own way and in His own time.

Said by somebody already gathered in, standing on ground that was cleared for her. What happens in that room at six, and how it feels, is God's.

I have been waiting on an invitation to a room I was already handed, and I stop waiting now. The written Word of God shows His own sent out with no ceremony at all, which settles whether a quiet hour needs announcing. I drew a line between what I may do for others and what I may bring to Him, and I never had the authority to draw it. The Holy Spirit is in that room at six in the morning, there whether I feel Him or not, out ahead of me. I stay under every authority I serve and inside every boundary I was actually given. A key in my own kitchen is mine to use. I open my hand, and the hour is God's.
