For the volunteer who was told to do the job months ago and is still waiting to be sent to do it.
When Moses was sent, there was a bush that burned without being consumed, a voice, an argument, and a rod that turned into a snake on the ground in front of him. When Isaiah was sent, the room filled with smoke and the doorposts moved. Those are the sendings most of us have in mind when we think about being sent.
Here is how you were sent. A woman with a clipboard said three of the markers on the lower loop are rotten, you know which ones, and then she got in her truck and drove to the other site.
That was in June. The posts are still rotten. The replacements are in the shed, cut to length, because you cut them yourself in July. You walk past the gate most weeks and look at the first one, and you keep not doing it.
You were sent in a sentence and you have been waiting for a bush, and the sentence was the sending. Scripture is full of people commissioned without any scenery at all, and the Holy Spirit does not require a scene before He puts a person to work.

Why the Quiet Sending Is Harder to Obey
A dramatic sending settles a question that a quiet one leaves open. Nobody who watched a rod turn into a snake on the ground had to wonder afterward whether they had imagined the whole exchange.
Your sending has no such proof attached. It was ninety seconds long, it happened beside a truck, and the woman who gave it has almost certainly forgotten the conversation entirely. So the question you carry is not whether you are willing. It's whether it counted.
That is the honest shape of what stops you, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a scolding. It counted. The rotten posts are still rotten, the replacements are still in the shed, and nobody else on this site has been told to touch them.
You are not unsure what to do, you are unsure whether you were really asked. The written Word settles what God has put into your hands, and the Holy Spirit gives a steadiness that a memory of a conversation by a truck can never give.
So the work here is not to talk yourself into courage. It is to stop requiring a second sending that the first one made unnecessary.
Where the Real Authority Sits, and Where It Doesn't
There's a boundary in this job that genuinely matters, and it is worth being exact about it, because a person who ignores it does real damage to real land.
The land is governed. There are rules about what may be cut, what may be dug, and where a post may go. Those rules are not your ceiling and they are not an insult. They belong to the people responsible for the ground, and honoring them is part of the work rather than an obstacle to it.
Now hold your three posts against that. Same positions, same size, same material as the ones already rotting in the ground. Replacing a rotten marker with an identical sound one is the most ordinary maintenance task the site has, and it's precisely what you were asked for.
You are free inside the permission you were given, and that freedom never asks you to step outside it. Scripture puts obedience and honor in the same person rather than at odds, and the Holy Spirit leads no one into taking what has not been handed to them.
Nothing here tells you to widen the path, move a marker, or decide anything that belongs to the woman with the clipboard. The freedom on offer is smaller and far more useful: do what you were told to do, at the size you were told to do it.
What You've Been Calling Humility
There's a name you've quietly given this delay, and the name is humility. It sounds right. A man who doesn't push himself forward, who waits to be asked properly, who'd rather do too little than too much, looks a great deal like a humble man from the outside.
Test it against what humility actually costs. Real humility hands a job back when somebody else should have it. Real humility takes the correction without arguing. Real humility does the unglamorous work when nobody's watching, which is exactly what setting a trail post on a wet Tuesday happens to be.
Now test the delay. It hasn't handed the job to anyone, because nobody else was told to do it. It hasn't cost you anything, because rotten posts don't complain. What it's protected is you, from the small risk of having acted on a sentence you might have overestimated.
You aren't being humble, you're being careful with yourself at the site's expense. The written Word calls humility a posture toward others rather than a reason to withhold work, and the Holy Spirit will tell a willing person the difference without shaming them for it.
That's said as a friend and not as an accusation. You didn't invent this habit on purpose, and nobody needs to shame you out of it. You only have to stop calling it a virtue, because a virtue is very hard to lay down.
The Heart Devises, the LORD Directs
There's a line in Proverbs that speaks to a man standing at a gate with cut posts in a shed, and it splits the job in two in a way that takes most of the weight off you.
> A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps. > Proverbs 16:9 (KJV)
You devise. That part is yours, and you have done it thoroughly. You worked out which posts, what length, what tool, what morning. There is nothing left in the devising for you to do.
The directing is not yours, and it never was. Where this leads, what it grows into, whether anybody notices the lower loop at all, belongs entirely to God, and He has not asked you to work it out in advance. You have been trying to get the directing settled before you take a step, and it is not settled that way.
You are responsible for the step, not for where the path goes afterward. The written Word gives you the devising and keeps the directing, and the Holy Spirit is the One walking the ground ahead of you.
Declare this over yourself
You are in Christ and Christ is in you, so what follows is not a claim made out of your own authority. It is agreement, said back to God in His own words, while the Holy Spirit carries it. How He orders the rest of it is His to decide, and He answers in His own way and in His own time.
Said by a man already spoken for, out of a claim God made rather than one he pressed. Where this leads afterward is God's to decide.
I was sent in a sentence, and I stop waiting to be sent again more impressively. The written Word of God says a man devises his way while the Lord directs his steps, so the devising was mine and the directing was never on my account. A quiet commissioning counts exactly as much as a loud one. The Holy Spirit is on the lower loop already, out ahead of me, needing no scenery before He works. I stay under the authority that governs this ground and inside the exact permission I hold. Three rotten markers are mine to replace. I open my hand, and the path and everything down it are God's.
