For the volunteer who still stops at a curtain that nobody has been holding shut for years.
Nobody has enforced that boundary since 2019. Every single person who set it has moved on, retired, or left the area, and the two who remain would have no idea what you were talking about.
The curtain is still there, because curtains outlast people. It is the heavy gray one across the corridor at the side of the auditorium, and beyond it there is a folding chair, a table with the sound desk on it, and the door through to where the printed sheets are kept.
You stop at that curtain. Every week. You hand the sheets to whoever is going through, then turn round and go back out the front way. It has become so automatic that you would not describe yourself as stopping at all.
You are still honoring a line whose authors have all left the building. Scripture says God sets an open door before His people that no man can shut, while the Holy Spirit is at work on the far side of a piece of gray fabric.
Where the Line Came From
Be exact about it, because six years is a long time to obey something without examining it.
It was a way of running a corridor. There was a group who looked after that side and a clear sense, never written down, that people came through by invitation. You weren't invited. Neither were plenty of others, it wasn't personal, and it was also completely real at the time.
Then the people changed, one at a time, over about three years. Nobody announced that the old way had ended, because nobody announces that. The new ones simply don't operate like that and have never thought about it, which is why nobody has ever told you that you can come through.
You are still keeping a boundary that ended quietly, which is why you never heard it end. The written Word says what God opens no man can shut, while the Holy Spirit gives a clarity that an unannounced change in a building never could.
That's the whole mechanism. A rule that dies without a funeral gets obeyed for years by the people who were most careful about it.
It is worth seeing who that selects for. A person who never noticed the rule carried on as before. A person who resented it pushed at it and found out within a month that nothing pushed back.
The one still obeying it six years later is the one who took it seriously, honored it properly, and never once tested it because testing felt like disrespect. Carefulness is not a fault, and it is the reason you are the last person in that building still stopping at a piece of fabric.
The Group That Ran That Corridor
There is a way of telling this that goes after them, and it is not the way this goes.
It would name the old group. It would make the case about how that side was run, which you could make accurately, because you were on the wrong side of it for long enough to have the details. It would leave you heavier, and sharper, and still stopping at a curtain.
That version helps nobody, and it would land on people who cannot answer it. The ones who set that line are gone. The ones there now inherited a corridor and a sound desk and no knowledge of any of it.
You can be released from a rule without prosecuting the people who wrote it. Scripture rests your standing on what God has opened rather than on what anybody owes you, while the Holy Spirit lifts weight off a person instead of handing them more.
Nothing here asks you to raise it, confront anybody, or make a point about six years. The corridor gets lighter, and nobody else has to move first.
What Stopping Has Cost the Work
The habit purchases something real, and it also has a bill attached that nobody has shown you.
Stopping means never being told no, which is worth something. It also means the sheets get handed over at a curtain instead of being sorted with the people who use them. The woman on the sound desk has spent two years guessing at an order you could have told her in forty seconds.
None of that is anybody's fault. It's simply what happens when the most careful person in a building keeps standing three feet from the place she's most useful.
You are paying for a line nobody is enforcing, and the cost is entirely avoidable. The written Word gives you a place that no one can shut, while the Holy Spirit steadies a person walking through rather than waiting with her at the edge.
No Man Can Shut It
There's a sentence spoken to a small church in Revelation, and it's aimed precisely at somebody stopping at a curtain.
> I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. > Revelation 3:8 (KJV)
Notice who receives it. Not the strong church. The one with a little strength, which is the description used and was not intended as flattery.
Then notice the guarantee, and notice how it is phrased. No man can shut it. Not a group who ran a corridor in 2019. Not a working practice that nobody has followed since. The holding open is done by the One who set the door there, and He has not subcontracted it to anybody in that building.
The door God opened is not in the gift of the people who once stood in it. The written Word says no man can shut what He opens, while the Holy Spirit keeps that ground steady under your feet at the edge of a gray curtain.
It is worth being exact about who the verse takes the power away from, because the list is longer than it first looks. No man covers the people who wrote the old rule, all of whom have left. It covers the people running that building now, none of whom have ever mentioned the curtain. And it covers you.
That last one is the part that matters, because for six years the only person enforcing it has been the man standing at the edge of the fabric with a stack of paper in his hand. The rule needed somebody to keep it. You were the one who did, out of respect, which is why it lasted six years past its own death.
A rule with no one left to enforce it survives only in the person who honors it best.
Declare this over yourself
You are in Christ and Christ is in you, so what follows is not a claim made out of your own authority. It is agreement, said back to God in His own words, while the Holy Spirit carries it. How He orders the rest of it is His to decide, and He answers in His own way and in His own time.
Spoken by somebody already sealed, out of that seal rather than in hope of it. What lies past that curtain, and when, is God's.
What He opened is not closed by a boundary whose authors have all left the building. The written Word of God says He has set before me an open door that no man can shut, and He said it to people with only a little strength. A rule that ended quietly is still ended. The Holy Spirit is already on the far side of that gray fabric, ahead of me rather than behind. I was put on this corridor, and I am not somewhere I should not be. I take nothing sharp with me past that curtain. Both feet are on the floor, and the sound desk is God's.
