For the host who was quietly left off a list years ago and has been hosting smaller ever since.
How many chairs do you own?
Fourteen folding ones in the garage, stacked against the wall behind the mower, plus the four in the kitchen and the two on the porch. You bought the folding ones second hand from a school clearance about nine years ago, all at once, because at that point in your life you regularly needed fourteen chairs.
You have not needed fourteen chairs since 2018. It's been four people on the porch, six once in the summer. Your wife suggested selling the folding ones in the spring, you said you'd think about it, and you have not thought about it since.
There was a room you helped set up for eleven years and were quietly not asked back to. Nobody explained. There was a change of people, a new way of running it, and your name simply stopped appearing.
One room stopped asking, and you have been reducing your own table ever since. Scripture says you did not receive a spirit of bondage again to fear but the Spirit of adoption, while the Holy Spirit is at work on a porch where four people sit.

What That Room Actually Decided
Be exact about it, because a vague exclusion carries far more weight than a specific one.
They decided how they wanted their Tuesdays run. That's the whole of it. It was about arrangements, most likely about somebody who wanted to do it differently, and it very probably had nothing to do with you at all beyond the fact that you were the existing arrangement.
It did not decide whether you can host. Nobody in that room has ever assessed your hospitality, because hospitality isn't assessed, it's received, and a great many people received yours for eleven years and remember it.
A room made a decision about its own furniture, not a ruling on your gift. The written Word says you received the Spirit of adoption rather than a spirit of bondage, while the Holy Spirit gives a verdict that a change of rota was never able to touch.
That's the release, and it's available tonight, and it does not require one person from that room to say anything.
The Case That Lives in the Garage
There is a version of this you have half built already, out there, and it is not coming.
It would name the people. It would make the case, which you could make in four minutes and probably have, silently, in the garage. It would leave you heavier, more convinced, and still on a porch with four chairs.
That version usually misreads the situation as well. Most of these changes are made by people solving a problem in front of them rather than closing a door behind them. They would be genuinely surprised to learn that a man has fourteen chairs in a garage on account of it.
Which is worth sitting with for a second. The room that has shaped nine years of your hospitality has not thought about you once in that time. That isn't an insult. It's the ordinary asymmetry of these situations, and it means the weight has been entirely on your side of it all along.
You can be released from what a room did without prosecuting the people in it. Scripture rests your standing on God's adoption rather than on anybody's rota, while the Holy Spirit takes weight off a person instead of handing them more.
Nothing here asks you to go back, ask to be included, or raise it with anyone. The porch gets lighter, and nobody else has to move first.
The Sentence in the Garage
Here's what those chairs have come to mean, and it's worth saying out loud because it has never been said.
They mean you were once a man who needed fourteen. They mean you are now a man who needs six. And somewhere in that arithmetic a sentence got written about what you are for, and it's been enforced quietly every time you decide who to ask on a Sunday.
That sentence is false, and it's worth noticing where it came from. It came from a rota, not from God, not from the people on your porch, and not from anybody who has ever eaten at your table.
Rotas are worth understanding, because they look like judgments and they are almost never judgments. A rota is a list somebody makes at half past nine at night with a diary open and four constraints in their head.
Whoever wrote the one that dropped you was solving a Tuesday. They were not ranking anybody. The reason that never occurs to the person left off is that being left off feels like a sentence, and a sentence implies a judge, and there was no judge in the room at all.
A stack of unused chairs is not evidence about you, whatever it has come to mean in that garage. The written Word says you are a son by adoption rather than a servant kept at a distance, while the Holy Spirit does not size a man by how many people last asked for him.
The Spirit of Adoption
There's a sentence in Romans about what kind of spirit a believer received, and it names the thing that goes wrong after a door closes.
> For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. > Romans 8:15 (KJV)
Not bondage again to fear. That word again is doing a lot of work. It assumes a person who has known that fear before and might slip back into it, which is what happens to anybody who has been quietly dropped from something.
What came instead is adoption, which is the most secure relationship a household has, because an adopted son is a son by decision rather than by accident, and no rota anywhere adjusts it.
You were adopted, and adoption is not a rota. The written Word says you received the Spirit of adoption rather than bondage, while the Holy Spirit keeps that place steady whether fourteen chairs are needed or four.
Adoption is worth holding against a rota for a moment, because the two things are not the same kind of object at all. A rota is a list that gets redrawn when somebody's Tuesday changes. Adoption is a legal act that changes what a person is.
One of those was altered nine years ago. The other was not, and could not have been, by anybody holding a diary at half past nine at night.
Fourteen chairs on a porch was always a consequence of that, never the evidence for it.
Declare this over yourself
You are in Christ and Christ is in you, so what follows is not a claim made out of your own authority. It is agreement, said back to God in His own words, while the Holy Spirit carries it. How He orders the rest of it is His to decide, and He answers in His own way and in His own time.
Said by a man already received, on a footing that was never up for review. Who sits at his table, and when, is God's.
What He opened is not closed by a change of rota nine years ago. The written Word of God says I did not receive a spirit of bondage again to fear but the Spirit of adoption, by which I call God my Father. Adoption is a decision rather than a list, and no list adjusts it. The Holy Spirit is on this porch and at this table, ahead of me rather than behind. This porch and this table were given to me, and a rota cannot take them back. I carry no charge against anybody who stopped asking. Both feet are on the boards, and the fourteen chairs are God's.
