For the host who stopped writing questions after one leader called the whole circle childish.
The tin is on the shelf above the coats, yellow, with a picture of a lighthouse on the lid that has almost worn off. Inside it there are forty-one cards, hand-cut from thicker paper because thin card curls in a warm room.
Each one carries a question. Not a game question. Who taught you to work, and what were they like on a bad day. What did your family do when somebody was ill. What is the smallest kindness you still remember.
You wrote those over about four years and tested every one of them in a real room with real people. You know which three always open a table, and which one you stopped using because it made a man cry in front of his son. The tin has not been opened since a Thursday two winters ago.
A word landed on the circle and you took it as a verdict on the work, and it was neither a verdict nor accurate. Scripture says the Spirit gives what He gives for the good of everybody, and the Holy Spirit has not withdrawn a gift because somebody reached for a dismissive word.

What the Word Childish Was Able to Do
That word, childish, is a small one carrying an enormous load, which is why it stayed when heavier criticisms would have fallen off.
It doesn't say the questions are bad. It doesn't engage with them at all. It says the whole activity belongs on a lower shelf, somewhere below the serious work, and that a grown woman spending four years on paper cards has misjudged what adults need.
That's almost impossible to answer. Defending the cards makes you sound exactly like somebody defending a hobby. Explaining what happens in the room when the right question lands sounds like special pleading. So you said nothing, put the lid on, and that was the last time the tin came off the shelf.
You were never told the questions were poor, you were told the whole idea was small. The written Word says the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the profit of all, and the Holy Spirit does not hand out gifts on condition that nobody belittles them.
Notice what survived, though. You kept the tin. Two house cleanings and a move of the coat rack, and the lighthouse is still up there above the coats.
What Taking the Lid Off Actually Costs
Here's the actual price of taking the lid off, and it's worth hearing in full, because you have been assuming a far steeper one.
Naming who said it is not asked of you. Deciding what they meant is not asked either. You don't have to raise it with them, be reconciled first, or wait for a day when somebody works out what one word did to four years of careful work.
Forgiveness will come as God brings it, in His time rather than on a schedule you set. No gate stands in front of a yellow tin. Nobody needs settling with before you put one card in the middle of a table.
That tin can come off the shelf today with nothing settled and nobody spoken to. Scripture makes your gift a matter between you and God rather than a matter of one word in a meeting, while the Holy Spirit waits on no conversation that may never happen.
This was never in anybody else's keeping at all. It is a shelf, a lid, and one evening.
What a Good Question Actually Does
There's an honest answer to that word, and it's worth saying once. Not because you owe anybody a defense, but because you have half believed it for two winters.
A room full of adults who do not know each other will talk about the weather and the parking for forty minutes. Everybody knows this and nobody says it. A good question is the difference between a room where six people were present and a room where six people were actually met.
Your card about the smallest kindness somebody still remembers is not a game. It's a door held open for a man who has not been asked a real question in eleven years and would never have volunteered one.
There is a reason that card works and it is in the word smallest. A question about the largest thing in somebody's life is a request they have to brace for. A question about the smallest gets answered before the guard arrives, and the answer is almost always larger than the question was.
Four years of testing taught you that, in rooms, with real people. It is not a theory and it did not come out of a book.
You were building a way in for people who cannot find their own, and that is not a small work. The written Word calls a gift of the Spirit something given for everybody's profit, and the Holy Spirit works through an honest question as readily as through anything said from a platform.
Given to Every Man to Profit Withal
There's a line in the first letter to the Corinthians that says what a gift is for, and it answers the accusation without ever arguing with it.
> But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. > 1 Corinthians 12:7 (KJV)
To profit withal means for the good of everybody. That purpose was written into the gift by the One who gave it, long before anybody in a meeting had an opinion about paper cards.
Read what that does to the word childish. A gift given for the common good, used for the common good, by a woman whose question let a man say something true in front of his son, is doing precisely what it was handed over to do. The purpose sits inside the gift. It doesn't need defending, because it was never yours to justify.
What God gave you was aimed at other people from the start, and it still is. The written Word says the Spirit gives for the profit of all, and the Holy Spirit keeps that purpose alive in you whatever anybody once called it.
For the profit of all is the clause that settles what the tin is for. Not for your enjoyment, though you enjoyed it. Not for your reputation, which is what the word childish went after.
It was pointed at other people from the beginning, and a gift pointed at other people does not stop being aimed while it sits on a shelf.
Declare this over yourself
You are in Christ and Christ is in you, so what follows is not a claim made out of your own authority. It is agreement, said back to God in His own words, while the Holy Spirit carries it. How He orders the rest of it is His to decide, and He answers in His own way and in His own time.
Said by a woman already accounted for, from a place settled without her help. Who sits at the table, and what they say, is God's.
What He gave me is still mine, and it was pointed at other people from the beginning. The written Word of God says the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every person for the profit of all, which fixes the purpose without any vote from a meeting. A dismissive word was set on the work instead of engaging with it. The Holy Spirit has kept this alive through every month I called it finished, and He goes before me. One question is worth asking without any platform standing behind it. Nothing has to be named or settled with whoever used that word. I lift my hands, and the forty-one cards are God's.
